Microsoft set to open a new retail store in Portland, and wanted to say “hello” to P-town in a big way.
We brought in Weezer to headline an Grand Opening concert and create buzz in the community, then parlayed that positive momentum into a social-media-driven battle of the bands to select one lucky local act to open for them.
Having Weezer come to town drew lots of attention from locals, reached a wide variety of musical artists in the Portland area, and drew a massive crowd on the day of the new Microsoft Store Grand Opening.
After outlasting more than 200 local bands, the fans of a group called Sunderland put them over the top, and landed them the big gig. As an improvised bonus, Weezer even invited Sunderland to play a song with them during the headliner set.
